Let’s set the rules first. This is not a review of Valentines Lake. It’s a package score, the same instrument we use on announcements and festival titles. We look at what is verifiable now: premise, hardware and how it was made. The package comes in at 7.6.

Premise: strong. Four friends, a Galentine’s weekend in a small town, and a cult that keeps an ancient creature under the lake asleep through human sacrifice. It’s a clean, sellable hook with a holiday angle and a monster with real mythology behind it. Writer-director Trent Duncan says the mythology is Lovecraft:

‘Valentines Lake’ Package Scores 7.6: A Score Award, a Streaming Home and a Very Strange Origin

“Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, Valentines Lake puts a new spin on Cthulhu mythology, introducing a sinister cult and new twists on the legend. It's a slow-burning mystery with plenty of eerie atmosphere, unexpected surprises, and fun moments along the way.”

‘Valentines Lake’ Package Scores 7.6: A Score Award, a Streaming Home and a Very Strange Origin

Hardware: one real trophy. Best Original Music Score at the Nashville Horror Film Festival, for composer Darren Morze. A craft award, not a best-picture award. We count it as a real signal for a creature movie, where sound does most of the work before the monster shows up.

Distribution: done. The film is streaming on Screamify as a $4.99 rental. For an independent feature, a festival win plus a streaming release in the same window is a good run.

The X factor: the Two Feature Project. Duncan and Joseph O’Connor made Valentines Lake from the same script and core footage as a second film, the slasher Axes and Os. That one swaps the cult for Luther Dremel, a Valentine’s Day ax killer. It’s the most interesting thing about the package, and it raises the score.

What holds it under 8. One craft award and no wider critical consensus yet. Shared-footage features also carry a risk: the seams can show. That risk only goes away with a full watch, and we score what we can verify.

Package score: 7.6. A full verdict comes after a full watch. In the meantime, the film runs 77 minutes and is on Screamify.
